Rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs, cats, and ferrets by County Code 4-6 and by Florida Statute 828.30. Rabies is a contagious and fatal disease. It destroys the central nervous system and leads to paralysis, convulsions, and death. All animal bites and scratches are regarded as potential sources of rabies. Rabies cannot be cured, but outbreaks can be prevented by having your pets vaccinated every year.
You must show proof of current rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian for your pet to receive his/her county tag.
Is your pet licensed? It’s the law in Sumter County.
